As previously mentioned, I think I've settled upon our science theme for the year (stretching into next year) -- The History of Science & Medicine. Here's how I envision it working...To begin, we'll be using The Story of Science: Aristotle Leads the Way by Joy Hakim (followed by The Story of Science: Newton at the Center) and Beautiful Feet's A History of Science Study Guide. I'll also be supplementing with many living books,* including:
- Ancient Science
- Archimedes and the Door of Science
- Pasteur's Fight Against Microbes
- The Story of Thomas Alva Edison
- Albert Einstein: Young Thinker
- Marie Curie's Search for Radium
- Starry Messenger: Galileo Galilei
- Along Came Galileo
- Leonardo Da Vinci (Giants of Science)
- Isaac Newton (Giants of Science)
- Sigmund Freud (Giants of Science)
- Marie Curie (Giants of Science)
- A Piece of the Mountain: The Story of Blaise Pascal
- The Ocean of Truth: The Story of Sir Isaac Newton
- Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas
- The Tree of Life: Darwin
- The Picture History of Great Inventors
- Great Lives: Invention and Technology
*A great list of over 700 living books for science can be found at Paula's Archives.
